since the arrival of my kiddos, things have been quiet on the musical front. however, i’ve been hard at work mothering and . . . playing with clay!
i plan to have an instagram account for my pots and jewelry soon, but in the meantime, here are some finished pieces/ works in progress:
it has been quiet here at clareburson.com, but something new is afoot – a new project, emerging from my little bubble of motherhood and museum-ing. consider this post a ‘soft’ opening for what i am calling
“THE HEIRLOOM PROJECT: ‘this is a cheese’ and other family stories“
many of you already know about my petrified cheese. for those of you who do not, go ahead and get acquainted here or here. anyway, i have come to the reasonable conclusion that my 120 year old wedge of cheese cannot be the only wacky family heirloom on the planet. so i am on a quest to collect stories about YOUR awesomely wacky family heirlooms that contain within them the mundane and the poignant.
once i have enough stories, i plan to compile a book (and most likely an accompanying album) that is part anthology, part memoir, part fiction, part mine, part yours, and hopefully, in total, a good time for all.
soon, i will set up a special site dedicated to the project, which will allow you to contribute photos and stories.
for now, please email me at clareburson @ gmail dot com if you have a story or a lead on one. eventually, i will focus the project on objects that are currently located in new york city, but for now, i’m just excited to hear about what’s out there.
drop me a line!
so, now that she is clearly off and running, i’ve decided to climb (slowly) back into my creative life.
this starts with a fabulous new fellowship i am honored to be a part of at the 14th street y’s LABA HOUSE OF STUDY. 9 NYC-based artists/writers/musicians/chefs convene to create art in response to our monthly study of ancient jewish texts. best part: this year’s theme is EAT!
i also have a few shows coming up this fall. all of them should be wonderful, but i’m especially looking forward to my performance on NOVEMBER 5 in LEIPZIG, GERMANY. i will be performing my SILVER AND ASH song cycle (songs in english, story in GERMAN) in my grandmother’s hometown surrounded by an exhibit of my mother’s artwork. if you happen to be in the neighborhood, please stop by!
see you out there,
